The Queen of Street Cats

Client:

Class Assignment

Illustrator, Designer

The assignment was to create an editorial cover that visually

reflected the story it accompanied while highlighting the central

figure. The story focused on a woman who rescued stray cats in

New York City, earning her the nickname “The Queen of Street

Cats.”

Design Process

I began by carefully reading the story to understand its themes

and the personality of the subject. Since much of her work took

place at night, I chose a New York alleyway as the setting and

used darker tones to convey the atmosphere of her rescues.

To emphasize her nickname, I depicted her seated on a throne,

symbolizing both her authority and compassion within the world

of street cats. This combination of setting, color palette, and

symbolic imagery created a cover that was both narrative-driven

and visually striking, capturing the essence of her story.
